When we talk about detox diets, a food routine full of vegetables and fruits cannot help but come to mind in which, in addition, a multitude of essential products for a healthy diet such as cereals or animal meats are almost completely eliminated.

As we know, this trend has generated much criticism from doctors and nutritionists due, above all, to the great imbalance that it causes at an organic level through the manifestation of the rebound effect or abnormalities such as headaches, weakness and nausea. However, and despite this, it is worth asking if all plant foods are suitable for this type of diet.

Vegetable foods less suitable for a detox diet

  • Keep in mind that most vegetables are allowed on a cleansing diet. However, in some manifestations of these detox regimes – much more scrupulous as well as restrictive – the recommendation is made to avoid starchy vegetables rich in carbohydrates. Foods such as potatoes, peas, artichokes, pumpkins, white beans, legumes in general, zucchini and tomatoes fall into this category. Some nuts such as walnuts are also very rich in carbohydrates and, therefore, their consumption should be limited as part of a food routine such as mint.
  • Saturated fats considered one of the great enemies of human health- are found mainly in animal foods, but some vegetable products such as oils also have high amounts of these substances. This is also the case of other products of vegetable origin such as cocoa cream, peanuts, coconut or palm oil, since they may contain significant amounts of fatty acids in their composition.
  • As we can easily see, there are few cases of plant-based foods that really have a clear contradiction when combining them with a detox diet. In this regard, it must be said that vegetables are a basic element in the preparation of any cleansing plan worth its salt, so most of its components will be allowed when carrying out recipes related to their objectives.
